A SWOT analysis on 54 health sciences libraries -related libraries from Community autonomous of Madrid (Community of Madrid) was presented at BiblioMadSalud 2016. Results revealed some internal weaknesses: lack of coordination, communication and institutional involvement with libraries, and lack of insight on them. In order to find solutions, BiblioEstructura was proposed as a work-group to develop a structure, organization and performance of health libraries to be acknowledged by Community of Madrid administration. Its main objective was to gain insight on health libraries at hospital settings. The first line of work was to review current documentation on hospital structure, organization and performance; the second line was to conduct a survey on libraries from national health system hospitals. Current regulatory documentation on internal organization of national-wide and Community of Madrid hospitals was revised. We were assessed by expert, hospital managers. Surveys were performed with phone interview on 25 health libraries, through 12 open-ended questions that answered anonymously. Legislative documentation, i.e., Royal Decree 521/1987 and Regional Law 11/2017 do not mention health libraries. Responses from phone interviews showed great heterogeneity in management of libraries. Some self-named terms was general-purpose library, medical library, health library or professional library. Also, libraries can belong to Management Board of the Health Service or share their affiliations. Although 44% of hospital have a Library Committee, sometimes they have unified commissions. Library staffs are sometimes members of other hospital committees. 72% of libraries deliver certified training and offer lectures. Research foundation is present in 19 hospitals, but just 10 are connected with it, 4 have it in their web page, and one of them mentions it in its annual report. Our current research shows how diversity of terms and affiliations, and lack of involvement in management boards allow the poor acknowledgement of health libraries within the hospitals. These circumstances call for the need for regulation that fix those drawbacks. The opportunity to build a single entity for all CAM health libraries and work-groups is the key to work in common lines that enable the achievement of a common goal

BiblioEstructura of BiblioMadSalud was proposed as a work-group to develop a structure, organization and performance of health libraries to be acknowledged by Community of Madrid administration. Start of your work with an internal analysis which result was presented at BiblioSalud 2019, XVI Jornada Nacional de Información y Documentación en Ciencias de la Salud with the title “Institutional status of health science libraries in the public hospitals of the community of Madrid”. In this work we propose to carry out an external analysis with the objective of knowing the legal structure in which the Health Sciences Libraries are framed within the institutions at the national level. Methods: A telephone survey is made to the coordinators of the Virtual Libraries of the 17 Autonomous Communities of Spain. with 4 questions, 2 basic and other two conditioned to the previous answers. Result: This study shows that only three Autonomous Communities have organized and regulated a system that establishes the mode of operation, structure and organization of their Health Sciences Libraries of their Public Hospitals. In the rest of the Communities, in the best of cases, there is a Virtual Library that acts as a working link between the rest of the libraries in your Community and coordinates some functions and services. Conclusions: It is essential to carry out a consensus work in which a legal document is formalized, supervised and approved by the Autonomous Administration, which defines the organization, structure and functioning of the Health Sciences Libraries in Public Hospitals, which It would provide stability to the system and a reference to the workers of the system

Effectiveness of Following Mediterranean Diet Recommendations in the Real World in the Incidence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and Adverse Maternal-Foetal Outcomes: A Prospective, Universal, Interventional Study with a Single Group. The St Carlos Study

We reported that a Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet), supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) and pistachios, reduces GDM incidence and several other adverse outcomes. In order to assess its translational effects in the real world we evaluated the effect of MedDiet from 1st gestational visit in GDM rate compared with control (CG) and intervention (IG) groups from the previously referred trial. As secondary objective we also compared adverse perinatal outcomes between normoglycemic and diabetic women. This trial is a prospective, clinic-based, interventional study with a single group. 1066 eligible normoglycaemic women before 12 gestational weeks were assessed. 932 women (32.4 ± 5.2 years old, pre-gestational BMI 22.5 ± 3.5 kg/m2) received a motivational lifestyle interview with emphasis on daily consumption of EVOO and nuts, were followed-up and analysed. Binary regression analyses were used to examine the risk for each pregnancy outcome, pregnancy-induced hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational weight gain (GWG), caesarean-section, perineal trauma, preterm delivery, small (SGA) and large for gestational age (LGA), and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit admissions. GDM was diagnosed in 13.9%. This rate was significantly lower than the CG: RR 0.81 (0.73–0.93), p < 0.001 and no different from the IG: RR 0.96 (0.85–1.07), p = 0.468. GWG was lower in diabetic women (10.88 ± 6.46 vs. 12.30 ± 5.42 Kg; p = 0.013). Excessive weight gain (EWG) was also lower in GDM [RR 0.91 (0.86–0.96); p < 0.001] without a significant increase of insufficient weight gain. LGA were also lower (1 (0.8%) vs. 31 (3.9%); p < 0.05)), and SGA were similar (5 (3.8%) vs. 30 (3.7%)). LGA were associated to EWG (RR 1.61 (1.35–1.91), p < 0.001). Differences in other maternal-foetal outcomes were not found. In conclusions an early MedDiet nutritional intervention reduces GDM incidence and maternal-foetal adverse outcomes and should be universally applied as 1st line therapy. GDM might not be consider as a high risk pregnancy any longer

The Choreography of Everday Life: Rudolf Laban and the Making of Modern Movement

“The Choreography of Everyday Life: Rudolf Laban and the Making of Modern Movement,” explores how an inscription technology developed in German expressionist dance found unlikely application in some of the key institutions of twentieth-century modernity. Called “Labanotation,” it used a complicated symbology to record human bodily movement on paper. Initially used to coordinate mass-dance spectacles in Weimar Germany, the system was quickly adopted in the United States and the United Kingdom in fields ranging from management theory to psychiatry to anthropology. My research analyzes the widespread appeal of this seemingly quixotic tool and to situates it within broader literatures on modern technology, art, media, and politics. Ultimately, I argue that Labanotation succeeded so spectacularly because it promised to reconcile the invented and the authentic, the individual and the group, and the body and the machine at moments threatened by massive social upheaval. Laban’s work thus not only served to preserve a fading past, but opened up new possibilities for the literal choreographing of modern life

Systematic Review on Individualized Versus Standardized Parenteral Nutrition in Preterm Infants

    No full text
The need for high quality evidence is recognized for optimizing practices of parenteral nutrition (PN). The purpose of the present systematic review is to update the available evidence and investigate the effect of standardized PN (SPN) vs. individualized PN (IPN) on protein intake, immediate morbidities, growth, and long-term outcome in preterm infants. A literature search was performed on articles published in the period from 1/2015 to 11/2022 in PubMed and Cochrane database for trials on parenteral nutrition in preterm infants. Three new studies were identified. All new identified trials were nonrandomized observational trials using historical controls. SPN may increase weight and occipital frontal circumference gain and lower the value of maximum weight loss. More recent trials suggest that SPN may easily increase early protein intake. SPN may reduce the sepsis incidence, but overall, no significant effect was found. There was no significant effect of standardization of PN on mortality or stage >= 2 necrotizing enterocolite (NEC) incidence. In conclusion SPN may improve growth through higher nutrient (especially protein) intake and has no effect on sepsis, NEC, mortality, or days of PN
